چکیده

A case of spontaneous pneumothorax complicating irradiation for bronchogenic carcinoma is presented. Pneumothorax developed in a collapsed lung caused by a central bronchogenic carcinoma. The cause is presumably secondary to either a bronchopleural fistula by tumour or sudden expansion of the lung following irradiation. Various tumours of the lung have been associated with spontaneous pneumothorax, Ausrralasian Radiology, Vol. XX, No. 4, December, 1976 339 MICHAEL R. HAY, KYUNG J. CHO AND HYUNCHUL SHIN including metastatic osteogenic sarcoma12, eosinophilic granuloma‘, teratoma”, other metastatic sarcomasJ, lvmphoma following radiation therapy‘, and pr-imary bronchoge&c carcinomas I .L : .i, 6.7 .LI, t o We have encountered a case of spontaneous pneumothorax complicating irradiation for bronchogenic carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first report in the English radiologic literature, and the second, in the English literature, of a case of spontaneous pneumothorax following radiation therapy €or proven bronchogenic carcinoma.

Radiation and Bilateral Spontaneous Pneumothoraces

Spontaneous pneumothorax can be a rare complication of thoracic radiation therapy with severe consequences. Most of the cases in the medical literature have been described in lymphoma patients receiving radiation therapy. Spontaneous pneumothoraces are divided into two types which consist of primary and secondary. Primary occurs in absence of any known lung condition, while secondary has an und...

Erlotinib-Related Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Patient with Primary Lung Cancer

Spontaneous pneumothorax (SPTx) associated with primary lung cancer is quite rare, but has been reported as the initial presentation or a complication of disease progression. Moreover, chemotherapy-related SPTx in primary lung cancer occurs at a very low frequency, accounting for less than 0.05% of all cases. Here, we report the first case of erlotinib-related SPTx in a patient with advanced lu...

The colossal circumvention of the lung lesion during lung stereotaxy

This is a case report on stereotaxic (Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy-SBRT) for lung cancer located in the left lower lobe (Segment 6, S6). There have been no reports on marked displacement of the peripheral lung cancer during radiotherapy. A pulmonary nodule was discovered on computed tomography (CT) conducted for a persistent cough in an 87-year-old male. According to diagnostic imaging, this ...

Therapy-related myeloid leukemia following Pleuropulmonary blastoma: A case report

The development of secondary malignancy (SM) is the most worrisome long-term complication of childhood cancer. Acute myeloid leukemia is the most prevalent neoplasm that occurs after treatment with alkylating agents and topoisomerase II inhibitors. Pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB) is a rare lung neoplasm in children. Type II and type III of this cancer are markedly aggressive and have a recurrent...
